China EV, energy storage battery sales reach 84.2 GWh in November
China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance estimates the sales volume of power and energy storage batteries totalled 84.2 gigawatt-hours in China in November.
Of that, 80.9% or 68.1 GWh were power batteries, representing an on-year increase of 22.6% and an on-month increase of 11.6%. Energy storage batteries accounted for 19.1% or 16 GWh of the total sales volume last month, which is 15.1% higher than in October. Data for November 2022, however, has not been disclosed, Kallanish notes.
During January-November, the combined sales volume of power and energy storage batteries reached 641.8 GWh, the association says.
Within this total, the cumulative sales volume of power batteries reached 554.1 GWh, up 35.1% on-year. Sales of energy storage batteries reached 87.6 GWh in the same period.
Meanwhile, EV battery exports increased 37.8% on-year to 13 GWh, which is also 13.5% higher than in October. Exports of energy storage batteries reached 4.9 GWh, an on-month increase of 59.7%.
Year-to-date, exports of power batteries reached 114.2 GWh and of energy storage batteries 19.4 GWh. Shipments to EV customers rose 94.6% on-year in November.
In terms of production, the total Chinese battery production for EVs and energy storage applications reached 87.7 GWh – up 40.7% on-year and 13.4% on-month. Manufacturers registered a 41.6% on-year increase in production during January-November to 698.7 GWh.
