Middle East and Africa Commodities Trade Journalist


Kallanish Commodities is a business media organisation that produces news, data, events, and market intelligence for professionals who work in commodities. Our team of 14 journalists based around the world delivers daily news to our readership of over 50,000, who rely on our information to make business decisions in a variety of economic sectors. We are looking to recruit a journalist covering Middle East and Africa.

The Middle East and Africa is a fast-growing and populous market, the coverage of which Kallanish wants to expand considerably. You will spearhead this process, establishing and maintaining contact with individuals and companies in the region, from whom you will expected to gather information.

It will be your job to tell the story of what is happening in the Middle East and Africa steel industry, keeping your finger on the pulse of daily developments, and using your judgement to write daily impartial, accurate and analytical stories that benefit our readers.

   Responsibilities and Duties:

   Qualifications and Skills:

  • ✓ Trawl through and identify the latest news/developments in the Middle Eastern and African steel industry
  • ✓ Acquire and manage relationships with new contacts
  • ✓ Contact companies for confirmation of news, ask for further comment to add value
  • ✓ Verify market comments and/or rumours with multiple sources
  • ✓ Write a required minimum articles per day
  • ✓ Write a minimum of one market pricing story per week
  • ✓ Maintaining a minimum of one steel product pricing assessment per week
  • ✓ Producing original copy, not just what is written in a press release
  • ✓ Interviewing steel company executives for stories/reports
  • ✓ Contributing content to and attending Kallanish conferences
  • ✓ Fluent written and spoken English, knowledge of Arabic an advantage
  • ✓ Positive attitude and good work ethic
  • ✓ Self-motivating and disciplined
  • ✓ Strong verbal and written communication
  • ✓ Ability and enjoyment for conducting research
  • ✓ Enjoys working in a global team
  • ✓ Knowledge of word processing software, Microsoft excel
  • ✓ Preferable experience in commodities or business journalism
  • ✓ Basic understanding of maths and ability to compare company earnings figures between periods
